Disodium EDTA Powder 99.5%+ / Cosmetic Grade
Product Overview
Disodium EDTA (Disodium Edetate Dihydrate) is a high-purity, water-soluble chelating agent widely used in cosmetic and personal care formulations to support product stability and performance.
Its primary function is to bind trace metal ions, including calcium, magnesium, iron and copper, which may otherwise interfere with formulation stability, contribute to discolouration or oxidation, or affect the performance of certain preservative systems.
Disodium EDTA is particularly useful in creams, lotions, serums, shampoos, cleansers and other water-based formulations where ingredient compatibility and long-term product stability are important.
BYC Lab supplies cosmetic-grade Disodium EDTA as a white crystalline powder, supported by batch-specific quality documentation.

-
Versatile formulation ingredient: Suitable for a broad range of skincare, haircare and cleansing products.
-
Batch documentation: Certificate of Analysis and Safety Data Sheet available to support ingredient assessment and traceability.
Common Applications
Disodium EDTA can be incorporated into a variety of cosmetic and personal care products, including:
-
Facial creams and moisturisers
-
Body lotions and emulsions
-
Facial serums, toners and essences
-
Shampoos and conditioners
-
Shower gels and liquid cleansers
-
Liquid soaps and hand washes
-
Micellar waters and other water-based cleansing products
It is particularly useful in formulations where trace minerals may affect product appearance, stability or preservative performance.
Formulation Guidance
Typical Recommended Usage Levels
-
General cosmetic formulations: 0.05%–0.20%
-
Toners, essences and serums: 0.05%–0.10%
-
Facial creams and body lotions: 0.05%–0.15%
-
Shampoos, shower gels and liquid soaps: 0.10%–0.20%
-
High-mineral or hard-water systems: Up to 0.50%, where technically justified
Use the minimum effective concentration appropriate for the formulation.
Solubility and Incorporation
Disodium EDTA is soluble in water and practically insoluble in ethanol and most organic solvents.
Add directly to the aqueous phase, preferably during the initial water-phase preparation.
Dissolve completely in water before adding other ingredients or heating the batch.
Processing Temperature
Disodium EDTA may be added at room temperature or below 60°C.
The supplied technical guidance indicates stability under normal cosmetic manufacturing conditions up to approximately 75°C.
Avoid prolonged exposure to temperatures above 80°C in combination with strongly acidic or alkaline conditions.
Recommended Formulation pH
-
Effective chelation range: pH 4.0–8.0
-
Reported stability range: pH 3.0–9.0
The pH of a 5% aqueous solution of this raw material is specified at 4.0–5.0 at 25°C. This is a material specification, not the required pH of the finished cosmetic product.
Compatibility Considerations
Disodium EDTA is compatible with many commonly used cosmetic ingredients, including:
-
Anionic, amphoteric and nonionic surfactants
-
Glycerin and propanediol
-
Hyaluronic acid and other humectants
-
Botanical extracts
-
Common preservative systems
-
Xanthan gum and carbomer
Disodium EDTA binds metal ions by design. Formulators should assess its suitability in systems containing ingredients that depend on available metal ions, particularly where metal-ion concentration or activity is important.
Avoid contact with strong oxidising agents during storage and handling.
Important Formulation Note
Disodium EDTA is a functional formulation ingredient rather than a direct skin-treatment active. It should not be marketed as independently providing brightening, anti-ageing, moisturising or other direct skincare benefits.
It does not replace an appropriate preservative system or finished-product stability testing.
Important Information
This product is supplied as a cosmetic raw material for formulation purposes and is not a finished cosmetic product.
It is intended for use by cosmetic formulators, manufacturers and individuals preparing cosmetic formulations.
Storage and Shelf Life
Store in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dry location, protected from direct sunlight, excessive heat and moisture.
Keep the container securely closed after opening to minimise moisture absorption and contamination.
Shelf Life: Two years from the manufacturing date when stored under recommended conditions.
For external cosmetic use only.
